Legitimate Maid Agencies In Singapore

by Mavic Best

Everybody needs help every now and then. Even the most successful men and women in their profession have people who help them in their everyday lives. This is the same as hiring help to take care of our house. We need somebody to assist us in cleaning the place we go to at the end of the day while we work. But of course, we can't just let anybody in our house. We need someone reliable and skilled in what they do. And to help us find such person, we can ask a maid agency here in Singapore to provide us with a reliable maid.

Before a maid agency can send someone reliable, the company itself should also be reliable. With the number of agencies providing household help in this small nation, we tend to go to the first one available, and sometimes that one is the biggest firm. But a big maid company doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. Sometimes a small-sized business is better because they can concentrate on their customers better.

All Singapore maid companies should have both licenses from Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and accreditation from Consumers Association of Singapore for Good Business Practices or Association of Employment Agencies. If an agency doesn't have one or both, then it has no approval from the government to operate.

Not all companies offer a trial period, but there are those that have a 365-day rule. This allows clients to keep a house helper under their employ for a year and have a choice of whether to keep her of have her swapped for free. Some have 400 days, while others just offer 3 months or 6 months duration. Trial choices like this are helpful should we find the house helper lacking during the time period, but it is still better to choose a firm that practices a match system to decrease the chance of the client ending up with an unsuitable maid.

As a lot of maids working in Singapore are from neighbouring countries like Indonesia and the Philippines, we can choose an agency that saves us from lengthy and tiresome process. The agency enlisting overseas workers should provide passport and work permit renewal, embassy endorsement, and foreign maid recruitment training. To help them get ready for their job, maids should undergo training while they are still in their home country and orientation upon their arrival here.
